Jitter Bug
Through the input of a web camera, the use of layered filters and data extraction, outlines of moving objects are presented where there is the highest contrast in relation to its background.
A study of data visualization, Marchand was interested in how technology translates information into binaries. 0's and 1's are determined by whether light and dark pixels are adjacent or not. This gets represented as color and in turn creates the core of what makes a line drawing. The line drawing is rendered every two seconds while a mask of dark colors is morphing in real time juxtaposing the more static drawing with the ephemeral, ever changing mask image. By filtering the live-camera feed through image processing technology, the visual form loses a significant amount of dimensionality yet may still be somewhat identifiable although in only the most general sense thus producing a uniquely interpreted audience feed-back loop.
