Detail

Detail is a wall hanging digital picture frame. Below the frame base is a mounted distance sensor. The display exhibits a scanned traditional archival photograph. The traditional photograph is translated into a digital object no longer constituting the original. As a viewer approaches the piece, pixels from the image are sampled and enlarged essentially blurring the entire image. It investigates notions of reality juxtaposed against virtual backdrops and the idea of the “object”. It challenges representational forms and the original. Detail is a gesture to frustrate viewers in order to inspire thought about the composition of virtual space as a medium.
