Man
Power
Generative Art, 2005
Contrary to popular belief, the most powerful men
in America are not the ones in political
office. Power in our society is measured by
paychecks and web hits. Celebrities rule our world
now and their tentacles of influence reach
far beyond the confines
of the seemingly harmless entertainment industry.
Based on parameters of salary, television appearances,
press coverage and web site traffic, Man
Power offers
a unique perspective of the ten most powerful male
celebrities in the U.S. through the interpretation
of colors sampled from the celebrity's recent
photograph. In much the same way these male figures
overextend their personalities under the guise
of public demand, this drawing machine creates
a randomly generated work of art each time the
user clicks the canvas.
* Recently featured in the annual Made
in NY 2006 exhibition at the Schweinfurth
Memorial Art Center, Man
Power was also awarded a
Juror's Commendation.
