As part of the NYC citywide Conflux Art Festival and the on-going project undetermined measurements, artists Sean Hovendick and John Wesley Mannion (working under the pseudonym AREA) conducted performances at numerous sites throughout Manhattan on Sunday, September 20th, 2009.
[...] "AREA proposes to conduct an interventionist performance utilizing a group of volunteers (20 or less), dressed in stark white "clean suits" and standing motionless in public spaces. Participants will silently engage with the audience in a non-confrontational manner to express the ever-changing perception that the United States has transformed from a unique symbol of freedom to a more fragile and fearful representation of uncertainty."
